How Ruto Will Supply Affordable Internet Countrywide

President William Ruto revealed plans to lay down 100,000 km of fibre optic to enhance internet connectivity in all parts of Kenya. 

Ruto, who spoke during a meeting with former Britain Prime Minister Tony Blair on Friday, November 4, noted that his administration was exploring options to partner with telcos to actualize the plan. 

“ICT is a big part of how we intend to deliver our development agenda. We are in talks with telecommunication companies to lay a 100,000-kilometre fibre optic that will reach every corner of Kenya,” Ruto stated in the meeting held at State House.

Ruto banked on the potential of leveraging information, communications and technologies (ICTs) to solve the challenges facing Kenya’s economy.

In addition, he noted that his government was keen on undertaking a plan to have all government services delivered online. 

Notably, Ruto informed the Blair-led delegation that he was looking at providing access to the Hustlers Fund credit plan on online platforms. 

He further stated that his government would work with the private sector to create digital businesses, promote innovation and grow entrepreneurship in a bid to create job opportunities. 

“We are looking at transacting between 80 and 90 per cent of government services online,” he stated. 

In attendance at the meeting were Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Information, Communications and Technology Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo. 

Notably, President William Ruto promised to deliver a ‘digital superhighway’ to boost internet connectivity. 

“We will be rolling out our digital super highway for the empowerment of every citizen with information and opportunities,” President Ruto stated during his manifesto launch.
