President William Ruto’s Cabinet secretaries have taken office with a promise to ensure service delivery.

Ministry of Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale assumed office yesterday, saying his first duty will be the modernisation of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.

Mr Duale said the modernisation will involve upgrading military artillery and equipment, technology, infrastructure and capacity building in the forces.

Speaking during the official handing over ceremony by his predecessor Eugene Wamalwa at Defence Headquarters, Nairobi, Duale said that he brings to the ministry a wealth of knowledge and network owing to his three terms as Garissa Township MP.

“We are working to make the Kenya Defence Forces better. We will make sure that the National Treasury puts more resources into modernisation of our Kenyan forces,” he said.

Former CS Wamalwa took Duale through briefings pertaining to a ministry he served for just over a year, saying it is now in the hands of someone who is not “new to the military.”

“We want to celebrate KDF as being not just the institution that leads in ensuring the territorial integrity in Kenya but also the institution that is helping the civilian authorities, especially this time of drought,” said Wamalwa.

“I have noted all the good things the team has been able to do and I look forward to putting more blocks to the foundation you have laid in delivering for our people,” she said.

Former Ministry of Petroleum and Energy CS Monicah Juma also handed over to Davis Chirchir.

Outgoing Labour CS Simon Chelugui handed over to Florence Bore at NSSF offices in an event also attended by Chief Administrative Secretary Nelson Marwa and NSSF Board Chairman Julius Karangi.
