Police have arrested a real estate manager suspected to have stolen and disappeared with Sh2.5 million rent from a real estate company he manages.

Nakuru East Sub County DCI boss George Momanyi confirmed that the police were holding Daniel Kiragu for the offence of stealing by servant.

“He is in custody and we have preferred charges against him. We will liaise with the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for him to be charged in court,” said Momanyi.

He added that if the DPP feels that the police intend to seek more days to detain Kiragu, if more investigations are required.

“We expect the DPP to approve the charges against the suspect, but if it is not approved we will seek time to detain him longer as we conclude investigations,” he said.

Kiragu, according to the DCI boss in Nakuru East, fled after he recorded a statement at the DCI offices in Nakuru, on September 1, 2023.

Kiragu was a property manager under Afri-sine Limited, a residential management company.

Momanyi said Kiragu allegedly committed the offence alongside others who are at large.

He said detectives received information from the company and summoned Kiragu to appear before their offices to record his statement.

“A complaint was raised to us that the suspect had stolen Sh2.5 million,” he said.

According to Momanyi, the suspect recorded a statement over the matter and more suspects are expected to do the same.

Nakuru East Deputy Sub County Police Commander Henry Gitonga said reports claimed that Kirangu was receiving money from tenants but failed to remit the same to the property owner.

He said he was arrested and will be in custody at Nakuru Police Station until Monday September 18, 2023, when he will be taken to court.

Kiragu, alleged to have stolen the money in the course of his duties.

He allegedly failed to remit rent collected from various commercial buildings in Nakuru, under the company’s management.
